Looks of the site: Nice and Sober but the title font could be a bit larger.
Main page:
One potential source of confusion that can arise for a new guy is the sign in link at the top right corner which is the login for the wikidot website.
I would recommend that we add a audio video presentation on how to navigate and add to the website in addition to the written work. I would like to point to www.zotero.org for an example on how useful and intuitive this feature can be.
Overall the site seems easy and intuitive to navigate. However what I would like is the forums link to be moved to the right so as to give a more prominent place to the site groups.
The notice board feature is nice but what I would have liked really is an RSS feed facility as it would mean people need not come back to the website every now and then to keep them selves updated. I notice that this facility is in place for the forums.
One major issue that may arise with the uploading of PDFs etc is the issue of copyright. As long as we were doing it in the relative security of a small group it is ok. Now that all content will be open to the spiders of google I would strongly recommend setting up an alternate method to store and transfer articles. This is one issue on which I think the administrators need to look into.
In the site group section we have to look into the issue of editorial control. Indranil da is well versed in this due to his work in About.com but rest of us are mostly novices in the field of online publication. Poor language and inaccurate statements will mean we will need quite a few moderators in each site group instead of the two. However the issue of site groups really needs to be looked into .. as I dont know how active people will be in this section. I guess this is one part we will know only with experiment.
Coming to certain enhancements that can be added :
1. A proper form to allow people to join the group. Perhaps we can ask for a member vouching system so that forum doesnot start becoming a place for password exchange in the long run.
2. A case discussion form. A standardized case discussion form is absolutely essential. From the looks of it the prime purpose isocentre has served till date is allowing radiation oncologists to interact on a particular case. While maintaining site groups is a very good initiative indeed the maximum thrust of the website should be promoting a dynamic interaction.
The problem with the present day case discussion system is that it is impossible to reference and search. I feel a standardized discussion proforma will improve the quality of discussion and make it available for later searches also.
I feel the forum is a good place to conduct discussions and our database can contain a permanent link to the aforesaid discussion.
One last point I would like to make is regarding archival and backup. Any plans for that.
Dear Santam,
Very nice comments, appreciated,it will be helpful if you give us solutions for the issues that you have raised. We have to be extremely careful with copyrights issues we cant post PDF articles directly on the website its too dangerous for that we have to think of some other alternative. Also we will have to make sure that the site group leader monitors the content, no copy paste business, it has to be original text.
As of now I have no idea about how we plan to archive/backup. I guess we see how things move initially and take it from there. If you have any idea's please feel free to let us know.
Thanks for all the help man.
A test template has been added in the forum post for head and neck. Indranil da do we have the facility to make sticky posts in forum? Do check it all and give your comments. I tried using an online database but the process involved will be too complicated for most.
Just for easy reference here is the template
| Name of Physician | test |
| Diagnosis | test |
| Age | in years or months |
| Sex | male or female |
| Chief Complaint | complaint type |
| Duration of complaint | months or years |
| Brief history | Add a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong history here. However dont hit the carriage return or return key or the table will break. You can use the space bar or any other punctuation you desire. |
| Salient examination findings | you can add the examination findings even if you have not examined the patient he he |
| Hemato-biochemistry | relevant investigations of the patient. |
| Tumour markers | Give the levels of the various tumor markers if relevant here |
| Radiology | if you want you can post pictures here like this. |
| Treatment given | Summary of treatment given |
| CCT details | Chemotherapy details if given … no need to give details of the cut money received ;-) |
| XRT details | details of RT planned along with the fancy contouring and dose distribution obtained. you can add image of the DVH too :-) |
| Question asked | Should we perhaps bring this to the top |
| Site group | Would you like this to be included in the site group .. may consider for the rarity of the case involved and the voluminous discussion generated for the same |
Thanks Santam. That's a lot of effort on your part. It is very good. I don't think we can make sticky notes in the forum. I think the forum has a chance of breaking down if we try to modify th code on the page. We have to train members to use the template. Don't worry too much. It will happen with time and people are eager to cooperate.
I anticipate problems with the carriage return issue - so do you. Personally I would not have made a table. I would have put headings (see below) and asked people to fill up details. Tell me what you feel.
Patient demographics
Replace this text with Age/Sex/Race
History
Replace this text with chief complaints and duration. Provide a concise but informative history. Include all previous treatment details.
Clinical Features
Replace this text with clinical findings, including general survey and KPS.
Tests
Replace this text with all relevant investigation results. Include imaging, tumor markers and relevent routine baseline investigations.
Final Diagnostic summary
Replace with your diagnostic summary
Issue(s) for discussion
Replace this text with the issues for discussion in a tabular manner
Your tentative plan
Replace this text with any treatment details you have planned. You can upload images and link to them. Please make sure that there is no confidential information revealed.
Hmm not a bad idea at all I would say. I went for the table as I am more inclined towards the database but you are right that it would be a lot easier for the people to follow this template. My suggestion for the routine use of this template would be to use it in the wiki page i created for this purpose along with the code block I created. And yes the carriage return issue is a show stopper indeed.
As far as the online database work is concerned it will be too much ado about nothing in the end as the complications needed will be too great. I am sure we cud have made a real good thing with SQL but i dont have the skill required for that.
I am in the process of making some screencasts to act as tutorials. I will upload them on youtube to save space here.
Ok the template page in the help section has been updated. Please go through it and send your comments
Thanks a lot. Looks great.
