Nucleotron India has some specific programs for brachytherapy training. I think they are some sort of capsule courses and I chanced on their link.

The contact person seems to be one Ms. Nita (at least she had responded to my email) and her address is nita (at) in dot nucletron dot com {(Substitute at with @ and dot with .) when you copy the email id}

I hope this helps. In case they are holding a training for large number of people in a batch, please keep everyone informed on the forums!

I also hope that interest in Brachytherapy would grow among the members.

If medicine is a life long learning process, what is the necessity of a 3 year senior residency?

We are seeing more and more people not sticking to 3 years of senior residency and start practicing earlier

What is it three years and not two or four?

Training in senior residency is again not uniform throughout India, how does that affect the 3 year margin, also doesnt this discrepancy result in overuse of chemotherapy in these training rad oncs??

Would appreciate opinions from every one on what senior residency is all about? and how can things be improved ?

I have been approached by a group providing educational resources who asked if I could come up with topics that would be of educational interest. We do a lot of discussing here and thought that we might be able to come up with some topics off the usual track (you know, the "Radiotherapy for low risk prostate cancer: New perspectives" type of …. YAWN …. thing. Many of our discussions are challenging and 'off-centre'.

I would suggest that any topic in RO-land is OK. If you also have seen or heard enthralling speakers, put their names & presentations in.

USMLE is a must in all states. No short cuts. Some of the USMLE steps are recognized in Canada and other countries. http://www.usmle.org/
Repeat residency is a must for some of the specialties (Radiation Oncology) but not necessary for some (Radiology). It all depends on demand supply ratio.

If you are interesting in practicing medicine independently anywhere in Canada. Need to do these exams.
Standard Pathway. http://mcc.ca/en/
I — MCCEE.
II — QE1.
Apply to CaRMS for residency match and if you get through matching process then do residency. CANADIAN GRADUATES WILL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE OVER IMG'S at all levels for obvious reasons.
III — QE 2, that completes LMCC.
Alternatively:
In selected provinces and in special cases one can take up speciality written and oral exams after clearing MCCEE and QE1 and one can start residency in PGY-2 or 3 level pending the assessment by the examiners and the individual program.
Academic route:
For exceptional candidates in special situations each province in Canada can give you an academic license which allows you to practice medicine in a specific university for a specific time period (5yrs) following this time period the performance will be reviewed by the university. This route is used when the province is short of physicians to bring in foreign trained doctors to work.
Fellowships:
None of the fellowship programs are recognized as training by the Royal College, so fellowship is NOT a shortcut to enter the system and bypass the exam process. Even if you do 10 fellowships still Royal College will not give you license unless to do exams and go through the formal assessment process.

Is it possible for the group members to suggest interesting articles which could perhaps be a paradigm shift in the way we practise radiation oncology .It could be anything-the NYT article, the introduction of new technologies or the use of newer agents? The moderators could even judge the submitted articles at the end of the year on its effect on current and possible future application.Just a suggestion,if nothing else it helps younger radiation oncologists keep abreast of the world or even a step ahead.
